Allergy Services

More than 50 million Americans suffer from allergies each year, and many times it’s not always possible to cure an allergy. Although most patients can live with allergies and tolerate symptoms, allergic reactions are uncomfortable and range in medical severity. The consequences span from small nuisances to life-threatening concerns, and it’s important to treat your allergies to prevent any major reactions. NOELA CHC offers a wide range of allergy services to help you diagnose, manage, and prevent allergy symptoms. Our healthcare professionals ensure that you stay safe and educated, while providing you with all the care you need to live a healthy lifestyle.

Seasonal Allergies

Allergy season in Louisiana changes slightly each year, but it’s generally from the fall to the spring. Seasonal allergies in the body manifest themselves as inflammatory responses to a foreign substance. Some of the most common triggers are:

  • Mold
  • Grasses
  • Trees (pollen)
  • Dust
  • Animal dander

Unfortunately, you can’t avoid all of these triggers throughout normal life. Common symptoms from exposure to these allergens include:

  • Runny nose
  • Nasal congestion
  • Watery, itchy, red eyes (allergic conjunctivitis)
  • Sneezing
  • Cough
  • Itchy nose
  • Itchy throat
  • Swollen, blue-colored skin under the eyes (allergic shiners)

If you are experiencing any or all of these symptoms, come into NOELA CHC today for help. We help you find the right treatment options that help get your symptoms under control.

Common Allergies

People can be allergic to many different foods, plants, dyes, and more. Some allergies tend to be more common and benign, while others elicit more extreme and dangerous reactions. Common forms of allergies we help diagnose and manage include:

  • Egg allergy
  • Peanut allergy
  • Sesame allergy
  • Fish allergy
  • Insect bites allergy
  • House pets allergy
  • Dust mites allergy
  • Pollens allergy

If you find any strange or dangerous symptom during or after exposure to any of these common allergens, seek help from NOELA CHC. Allergic reactions can include a number of different and concerning symptoms.

Although all of these symptoms are undesirable, the most severe and life-threatening is anaphylaxis. The throat swells up, the airways are constricted, and there’s an extreme drop in blood pressure, among other concerns. If anaphylaxis is left untreated, it can lead to a coma or even death. Fortunately, all the symptoms of an allergic reaction, including anaphylaxis, can be avoided with proper allergy diagnosis and care.

Growing Out of Allergies

For better or for worse, children can grow out of allergies while some adults can get an allergy in later in life. Recent research indicates that about a quarter of children will outgrow their allergy by age 5, though unfortunately peanut allergies in particular are commonly lifelong. It is also common for adults to adopt a shellfish or fish allergy. As many as 40 percent of people who report a fish allergy experienced no issues until adulthood. Whether you’re concerned for your child or you believe you might have recently developed an allergy yourself, come into NOELA CHC for proper care.
